Mystery, the Pickup Artist from VH1, is considered one of the godfathers of the pickup community. With his exceptional social insight he created a system that is fool proof. Walk up to a girl, talk to her for a couple of hours, 7 according to his experiences, and bring her to your bedroom. What he does in between is meticulously detailed in his chronicles, which have appeared in both paperback and ebook form. With his trusted friends, also known as wings, he regularly goes out into the Hollywood nightlife.
So what exactly is it that gets girl drooling all over this particular guy? Let’s look at him at first glance. He wears a jacket that could have been from the 14th century. With tight leather pants, black nailpolish and eyeliner he sure is an easy to spot fellow. If that weren’t enough he’s walking around on platform soles, and wears a furry top hat, which makes him 2 heads taller than anyone else in the club. He finishes it off with an abundance of jewelry: a couple of rings on each hand, leather cuffs on his wrists, and a shiny necklace.
This is a concept known as peacocking. To understand it we have to look at all other guys in the club. You can place a safe bet that most guys are wearing the following outfit: jeans and t-shirt. Maybe the club is a bit higher value and then they might be wearing a button down shirt. In almost all cases the pants and shirt will be 2 sizes too large, or baggy as the hip hoppers call it. These guys aren’t noticeable. They blend into their surroundings, are drinking beer and ogle the women. His outfit, if put on the counter, would net about 150USD new.
The women on the other hand are wearing tight pants or skirts, their tops are designed to pull the eyeballs out of men’s eye sockets. They have payed 50 euro’s to have their hair done. Furthermore they wear unique jewelry like scarfs, rings, bracelets and all other kinds of apparel. Imperfections are quietly masked by putting some concealer on it. Their strong qualities are enhanced by make up that costs 20USD a bottle at Ici Paris. Put all the girl’s jewelry, clothes, make up, tanning, work outs and coiffeuse on a credit card and you’d easily net over 1000USD. They have put quite some effort into looking good.
When society tells you that girls don’t need looks in a guy, they are telling you only half the truth. It is true that you don’t need to look like Brad Pitt to get laid. But on the other hand, dressing like Bill Gates most certainly won’t get you laid. Mystery adapted this into wearing at least one unique item that gets girls interested in him. This distinguishes him from the crowd. As is apparent he took his own advice to heart and completely redesigned himself to have not a single piece of clothing that doesn’t have a story attached to this.
When the guy with the 150USD outfit meets the girl, she’ll rudely reject him, as there is absolutely nothing that interests her at first glance. She turns her back on him, maybe after accepting a drink, and it is over before it even started. When Mystery starts talking to the same girl, she will instantly notice that he is different. She has never before spoken to a guy like him and that intrigues her. This means she will give Mystery at least a chance to talk to her, and that is all that is needed to get the game going.
